THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
For many people living with dementia, standard technology eventually creates a "digital cliff." When smart devices become too complex to navigate, individuals lose their ability to access music, view family photos, or receive reassuring messages which can lead to social isolation and increased agitation. This loss of connection can also leave families feeling a profound sense of helplessness, locked out of the communication loop when they want to support their loved one. Meanwhile, care providers struggle to find flexible engagement tools that actually work. Instead of delivering meaningful, person-centered care, staff are frequently pulled away to act as tech support because existing assistive technology is simply too rigid for clients to use independently.
WHAT IT DOES
HeartStreet is a customizable app that runs on any Android tablet or Apple iPad and transforms them into a dementia-friendly connection hub. It works by empowering families to remotely manage the interface - curating familiar media, setting daily routines, and initiating video calls - completely removing the need for the user to navigate complex menus. Whether the individual is living independently at home or in residential care, HeartStreet provides a frustration-free anchor that reduces isolation, while giving care providers a scalable engagement tool that frees staff from acting as IT support.
